our trainer

David Penny has been coaching since the 1970s. He began his career in athletics as a karate instructor. He has also taught hockey, soccer and baseball. In the early 1990s, David opened Bridgewater Boxing and brought amateur boxing to the South Shore. In the late 1990s, he began teaching competitive kickboxing and took students to provincial level competition. Over the past 25 years, he has taught boxing and kickboxing at the recreational and competitive level. David stepped away from the ringside for a number of years, but, due to great demand, he currently trains a number of boxers who are competing. David’s current club Dave’s Multisports, offers both recreational and competitive boxing, in addition to recreational kickboxing classes. David continues to offer personal training classes and specialty classes by request (such as self-defence classes, group workshops, and lessons at schools and other facilities in the South Shore).

I am thankful for these 7 great years of coaching and friendship

Dave manages to achieve the perfect balance between fun and physical work that is carefully and cleverly aimed at getting people to push themselves and achieve small goals on the way to big ones. He has an intuitive understanding of how people think, function and move, and what they need.

My only regret is not starting earlier

Not only does Dave have the hardest training sessions I have ever gone through, he also tells me to enjoy myself more than all of my past coaches combined.

Boxing is so much more than a workout

I tried so many sports before coming to Dave's, but nothing made me want to keep going. It's easy to start something, but it's challenging to stay consistent at it. Dave's classes motivate me to improve and push me to challenge myself to get better, fitter and smarter. To me it's not just a gym, its my lifestyle, my community and my therapy.

Training with Dave for the past two years,
has been one of the better decisions I've made.

After losing 20lbs and winning my first bout, it's hard to say when I've felt this great and dedicated to a sport. There is not a single day I feel the classes are boring or disinteresting. Dave is very knowledgeable within the sport. He is a great coach and motivator.
